Outstanding in the Field

We've got outstanding news!  This year our farm was chosen to take part in a "roving culinary adventure - literally a restaurant without walls" - as the acclaimed Outstanding in the Field is headed out to Capay early this summer to host a dinner on the farm, Sunday, June 24th.

With a mission to "re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food, and to honor the local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it" we cannot be more excited to take part in this Outstanding event.

Before everyone settles in at the table for dinner, Thaddeus, Noah and Freeman will give a tour of the farm and tell a little about our story and philosophy.  Then together the farmers, culinary artisans, producers and guests will share seats at the long tables for an amazing meal from Executive Chef Oliver Ridgeway of Grange Restaurant in Sacramento. Ingredients for the meal are local - some of which might be sourced within inches of your seat at the table.

There's no shortage of gorgeous farmland in California, and we're so very honored to be chosen for an Outstanding in the Field dinner.  We've been told it's an evening not soon to be forgotten, and we're so very excited to be able to share this event, a culinary milestone, with our Farm Fresh To You community.

Join Us! - Update: Tickets Sold Out, March 23rd*
Tickets go on sale through the Outstanding in the Field website on Tuesday, March 20, at 9 a.m. Tickets for the event are $180 per person for a wine and appetizer reception followed by a 4-course meal with wine pairings. Tickets often sell out fast!  We can't wait - and hope to see you there!

* Tickets for this event are no longer available.  Thank you! *

Why the heck are the tickets $180 per person for a dinner? Wow, that sure eliminates the "common" working person - like someone who might work on a farm. Am I missing something or is it something beyond a tour of the farm and dinner? Where does all that money go? I'm sorry if I'm coming off rude, but it sounded and looked like such a fun experience until I came to ticket prices. Thanks, Truman
Wow, I must admit Truman has a point. As a new customer at Farm Fresh to You, I thought this sounded really fun and wanted to buy a few tickets. Never would have guessed that the tickets would be this expensive. Wonder why.
Thanks, Diane

Comments above sounds very on point to me...$180 per person is out of reach for most folks with normal income...certainly not a reconnect for the 99%. There may be more to this than meets the eye...if so, it would be nice to know. DRS
I agree with previous comments, I believe $180 should cover a family of 4.
I agree with everyone above. I was so excited to read about this event, but there's no way that I could justify that expenditure...
I'm in agreement with the rest of you. It seemed like a wonderful experience and was thinking of purchasing tickets for my sister's anniversary gift. I would have paid $180 per couple but, $180 per person is a bit too steep.
I agree. I've been a customer of FFTY for over a year and this event sounded great! A little disappointed when I saw the ticket price :(
Is the menu available? and Is it vegetarian? Also - I agree with the above comments - $180.00 PER PERSON! Way out of our budget.
Hello everyone - thanks for all the comments. The Outstanding in the Field organization sets the ticket price and handles the event. We provide the setting and a tour of the farm as well as some of the fresh ingredients. To give you more detail: the ticket price includes a wine reception with appetizers and 4 courses each with wine pairings. For the meal, Outstanding in the Field works with small, local artisans and specialty food producers to select the best of the area.

We've recently spoken with folks who have attended an Outstanding in the Field event and compare it to a culinary milestone, one of those special lifetime events, like a special trip or visit to a well-known restaurant. (more in next comment)

Come on people...do you have a clue what something like this costs to make happen. We are not talking about setting up a few card tables. They make it
memorable, and I am certain beyond your wildest dreams.

Have you priced similar events.

It's worth it.
(continued) We completely understand the perspective shared in the comments. While we are quite, quite honored to be chosen for the event, we do believe that coming out and enjoying the farm and connecting with the land that grows your food should be accessible to many which is why we encourage you to come out for one of our regular Second Saturday Farm Tours. You'll have to pack a picnic blanket and bring your own goodies but we'll still serve up live music, tractor tram rides, a harvest activity and more. Our March Tour was $4 per person for our CSA members and children 12 and under were free.

Hope this helps to explain the Outstanding event and brings you out for another one of our farm events.
That is super exciting that you were chosen! While $180 is out of my own price range, I don't think it's an unreasonable amount. In addition to the quality of food and wine provided, the uniqueness of the event... consideration has to be given to the amount of planning, marketing, mobile kitchen, tables, chairs, staff and equipment needed to give a 5-star dining experience outdoors and away from a standard cooking environment.

Lizabeta – Thank you for sharing in our excitement! We are truly excited to be chosen to participate in something so epic.
Sorry- was starting to plan to bring all the grandkids for a fun day- but $1620.00 is just bit much. We are going to take them camping, two nights at a open Cisco Grove$70.00, goodies and food $150.00- hiking, fishing family games - priceless!

Have always wanted to attend one of these events, but very disappointed as cost of event is beyond my budget. Imagine the meal I can cook, wine included, for this amount.
I agree with the comments regarding price, especially without providing a menu, i.e., is there a vegetarian menu?
The Wheeling WV Symphony Auxiliary each year puts on a fabulous event called Farm to Fork We choose a local farm each year, select a great chef, use china, silverware and glasses. Each course has a wine pairing from a local wine expert as well as the chef also speaks about each course. Prior to the gourmet dinner, (chef uses all local meat, poultry and produce,) Included is a delightful cocktail and hors d oeuvre party including music from the Wheeling Symphony quartet. Our price is $75.00 per person or $150.00 per couple. We only take 100 reservations and we sell out each year. Our next event is being held on Saturday, August 20. It is a truly culinary adventure.
